Team Handball - Learning through Modified Rules

Hello All,

Techniques learnt:
PASSING – USE ONE HAND (LEVERAGE)
CATCHING – USE BOTH HANDS (SAFER) / ‘SOFT HANDS’ (ABSORB IMPACT)
DRIBBLE – LESS! Small Ball is easily stolen or poorly controlled…. SO PASS MORE… MAKE THE BALL DO THE WORK!!!
DEFENCE STANCE – stable base, hands up or outstretched.

2 main types of defence:
1)MAN TO MAN – EACH DEFENDER IS ASSIGNED TO MARK A SPECIFIC OPPONENT
2) ZONE – EACH DEFENDER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A SECTOR

To allow certain techniques or team tactics to be applied in any game, the rules can be modified (and changed back later to the normal game). Thus, in half-court handball, we have the following rules:

Half-Court Handball
2 TEAMS USE HALF OF HANDBALL COURT
ATTACKERS: 3 RESTARTS TO SCORE!
DEFENDERS:
INTERCEPT / PRESSURE ATTACKERS TO MAKE MISTAKES /
DELAY / DISRUPT

Questions for reflection:
1.Was your defense successful? Why?
2.Can we have a hybrid defense? Why?
3.How does your team assign roles?
4.What strategies did your team use?
